View Full Version : Problems with LOS tool
Well, I'm having my brain sucked out through my nose these days by a recent influx of simulation style wargames. Honestly, it's all proving to be a bit overwhelming for a WWII era junkey such as myself.
In Raging Tiger the manual and tutorial point to a possible usage of the LOS tool which I cannot mimic. Apparently, when setting up units (individual vehicles and such) you should be able to quickly generate a LOS fan by right-clicking while simultaneously moving pieces over the map (of course, while the left mouse button is also depressed). Predictably, my problem is that a right-click does absolutely nothing.
Any ideas on why? I am at a loss.

p.s. Very nice game. After watching my system labour under the considerable weight of Point of Attack II I was happy to find that ATF and Raging Tiger existed and were accessible to the CPU challenged.

It only works when you are dragging a single vehicle. If you are dragging heirarchies or multiple selections, right-clicking does nothing.
It also works when you're placing movement waypoints, even if its for a heirarchy.

Kevin is correct,...the LOS tool is designed to gauge the LOS from a single point, not from a collective centerpoint or numerous points, on the map.
The tutorial states:
2. Left click on a scout and begin to drag it to a location where you think you have good observation of the objective.
3. Now, while still holding the left-mouse button, right-click. An LOS Fan appears telling you what the visibility is. A unit at this point has a direct Line of Sight(LOS) to whatever is covered by the yellow lines. "A unit", in this case, refers to a single entity, not a group.
Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy Raging Tiger, nasally-sucked brains notwithstanding! Stick with it and I'm sure you'll learn to appreciate the complexities and subtleties in the game

Alas, if only it were to be resolved with such ease. No dice, guys. I've tried it with individual vehicles at every possible zoom level, with different kinds of vehicles, over different kinds of terrain, using single and double clicks and with both pictorial and symbolized unit representations.
Any ideas? Are there any other parameters that need to be satisfied. Am I simply drunk again?

Does it work when you are dragging path waypoints rather than vehicles?

No. It doesn't. Weird, eh? I take it this is the first time you've seen this problem?

I know just about nothing about computers, so if I'm saying something idiotic...well it's not the first time. Anyway, could the right mouse button be set to the wrong default? I know with some games you have to set each button to represent a certain function.
Anyway, good luck.

I have never seen this before. Do you have any issue with using your right-mouse button on the desktop, or on other programs?
What brand of mouse are you using. It might be that it does not support simultaneous right and left mouse button action (unusual, but not unheard of behavior).
It's definitely not the mouse. I've had this one for close to two years and it does everything a mouse should. There must be some simple explanation that I'm not seeing. Apart from the LOS tool, all other right click functions appear to go off normally. I don't get it. There must be some option that I have turned off (or need to turn on). Let me take another run at the scenario tomorrow and I will get back to you.

Well, it does not seem to want to work, but at the end of the day it is not a huge thing. As I understand it, this function is only available during setup and therefore does not play a major role in the game. LOS can still be viewed fairly quickly through the right click menu and tool bar.
Anyways, just wanted to see if it was something that needed to be looked at.

I encourage you to try the following.
On your desktop, click away from any icons with the left mouse button.
WHILE HOLDING THIS BUTTON DOWN, click the right button.
Did a menu popup? If so, there is an issue with ATF/RT. If not, there is a problem with your mouse and or mouse driver.
Let me know if you get a menu, so I can start taking apart the ATF Engine.
There you go. Live and learn. It's my mouse after all. Oh well, as you were. Nothing to see here.
