Earlier today I played CMBO and did the "Combat" scenario. I played it from the German side. My OOB was 1xmachinegun in a concrete bunker, 1 machine in a wooden bunker. Reenforcements came in turns 3 and 4. They included 2 panzerchrecks, and a platoon of infrantry. I placed the panzerchrecks to give somewhat of a crossfire and the infrantry in a wooded area to provide them with some cover. I managed to knock out one tank and a platoon of infrantry before loosing the concrete bunker and both my panzerchrecks. and the rest is history, I ended up loosing the hill and the game to an allied major victory. But this tought me how to defend a hill with inadequate forces.

P.S. How does one capture an in the game screen so I can post it here for future references.

Hi Jeremy-

Thanks for the AAR post. Being on defense is not so easy as it first sounds. It's too tempting to spread your forces thin which lets a concentrated attack plan roll right through it. I don't know if that was how your situation went.

You said you learned something about setting up a defense. What was it exactly?

As for doing screen captures, it's easy. Hit the PrtScr button on your keyboard. It should be just to the right of F12 and a couple of keys to the left of Pause. This will capture the current screen image to the system clipboard. You can then escape from the game, open Paint from your Start menu, and when you get a new blank canvas, go to Edit and hit Paste. The screen capture will appear there. Then you generally want to clip it down or shrink it down to an 800x600 size image so it's not too large. Do a Save as... In the file type combo box, select JPEG .jpg and enter a filename for it.

When you do your post, like for this AAR here, you scroll down a ways below the edit window to find the Manage Attachments button. Hit that button and you will Browse your disk to Upload files to this forum. It will create link entries to the uploaded files.

I think you can also make 'img' tag links to picture files present on a web server, but those images have to remain readable from the network. For this reason, the Manage Attachments upload is generally the better way to go.

Yes thanks for the AAR! We Appreciate participation!

I just recently played this scenario from the allied side and won a Major Allied Victory. As I recall the OOB for the allies is
3x infantry squads with hq squad
1x sharpshooter
1x light machinegun
1x artillery spotter 81 or 120mm? Don't recall.
1x sherman...This is the killer!

The bunkers actually do a pretty good job of pinning the troops down but the tank can take the Log bunker out from long range no problem! In my opinion it would have been much more difficult if it had no tank. It might be interesting to edit the tank out and try it with no armor or if the armor came later it might have played a little differnt. The scenario is very short so I am not sure how random the tank reinforcement is. I got it around turn 2 or 3.

The scenario is a Wild Bill Wilder scenario based on an episode of the T.V. series Combat! Over all it is a fun scenario but is over balanced for allies. I will have to try it as the Germans and see if it plays good from that side.

Here is how the action went in my game.

My troops start in a depression in a bend in the road. which provides good cover. The road continues forward and curves off to the left at the base of a hill. At the top of that hill is the victory flag and the concrete bunker. Following the road to the left some distance away 150m? maybe is a log bunker. The cross fire is effective at pinning my troops and some of the squads and the slower MG crew begin to take casualties.

Off to the right at the base of the hill is country cottage and a depression that should shield my men from both bunkers. I give the order and we scoot for cover!

By this time my Sherman arrives. I drive him up to the bend of the road and take aim on the log bunker to the left. Just 1 or 2 shots and I get a kill. I continue moving left and begin climbing the hill putting suppressive fire on the bunker. While my tank is occupying the bunker my infantry charge up the right flank of the bunker.

My tank begins taking fire from panzerfaust's in a small patch of trees at the top left of the hill. My tank suppresses them with machine gun fire and by this time my infantry crest the hill and are able to add their fire in support.

Between my tank which got some good shots on the bunker and a few grenades it falls.

Casualties have been acceptably light.

:D

BO the scenario is called "Combat!"
I thought it was a stock scenario but if not Scenario Depot probably has it.
