View Full Version : Biggest BF1942 pet peeves
I'm just curious what are some of everyone's biggest pet peeves are of the plain BF1942 game. Some of mine are:
That people don't pay attention to what types of player are already playing on a map. For instance, when you play Market Garden and Axis already has 4 snipers, you still have a couple of people who still become snipers. This is why Axis looses most of the time.
Most people don't use tactics in the game and just try to go in by themselves or in groups of two or three with guns blazing and try to take a flag. That, or you see a tank go off by itself and not have any infantry with it. A tank can take out a lot, but if you get too much infantry, it will be too overwhelming.
I also hate seeing people that will not defend. You have a group of people that will take a flag and then just move on. Then it only takes one person and come and steal the flag back after you have left. Then you end up playing back and forth with the flags.
I also dislike grenade spamming. I cannot stand to be in an area and have one person just tossing grenades like crazy. I mean, I guess it could happen in real life, but it's just not as likely.
Plane campers also bug the crap out of me. Instead of joining the battle, you'll have all the people waiting for a plane and in turn they end up losing the battle. This is usually the worst on the El Almein (crap can't remember how to spell it) map.
While I normally don't condone spawn camping, I think it is okay when your team comes to the enemy's spawn point when all other spawn points have been controlled and it's the only other place to go. This is what would happen in an actual battle, so I can agree with this when there is just nowhere else to go.
Those are my main pet peeves. Does anyone else have any one's?
The one where people drive off in an empty vehicle and there are 5 people behind them yelling "Requesting a pickup!" and shooting their smg's at them...
Also, although it isn't really a pet peeve, I just like teamplay, and BF: 1942 doesn't have much of it. That is why I like Call of Duty and the Heat of Battle mod. It takes more than one person to capture stuff, and teamwork is encouraged more. Its fun to have 2 people holding a capture point and requesting one more to actually capture it, so you run across the field to save the day....ah.....its fun.
That's a good concept. I'd like to see that in BF1942; where you have to have more than one person to take a spawn point.
Yeah it annoys me too when you see someone drive off in an empty vehicle. Or what I hate too is when they'll take an artillery piece or jeep and drive it so they can get to the tank/plane faster, so then the vehicle that they drove will now be destroyed because it has moved...
I'm really hoping that BF2 gets modded into WWII.
My biggest pet peeve is when everyone goes off by themselves and thus causes their team to lose. I really hate when this happens in coral sea, people just take the planes and then no one's there to defend the carrier with flak. I usually end up doing it anyway, so I don't see as much action as I would like, but my team usually ends up winning.

Yeah, teamwork has always seemed to be a problem in BF1942. But there are some servers that try to encourage players to use teamwork such as the GameFAQs server. I've played on this server a few times and have seen some evidence of teamwork. For instance one time I requested naval support on the Battle of Midway map, and someone actually came to help me out
But even if you don't find the amount of teamwork you are looking for on these types of servers, you usually find a lot less people committing several of these pet peeves such as plane camping and team killing.
1) Lack of teamplay.
2) Ridiculous flight model.
3) When one goober takes an empty blackhawk to the battle while four or five of his teammates are yelling that they need a ride (ok, that's in DC, but still...)
1) all the tking that goes on in some maps. I'm all for realistic damage, but really people, if you're that aggresive, you don't belong in my military!
2) directing in arty fire is very difficult for me. Of course, that's my problem.
3) flag control - some maps only one side can control a flag (Omaha is one) and the other side can keep you off it by just camping that spot.
4) snipers galore - but I think this has been discussed.
5) in DC, people taking off in multi-man vehicles, particularly those that have weapon hardpoints. Rather silly.
Yeah, for some reason, people cannot reach to the top of the keyboard at hit F2-F1 (Request pickup) when you're driving a vehicle...they resort to shooting at it to get your attention. That drives me freakin' bonkers.
There are a lot of immature people on some servers, but I guess that's to be expected. I don't have the time for a clan, but sometimes I wish I had access to some of thier servers to be able to play with some people that played logically and with some tactics.
On thing that was pissing me off yesterday was I was playing the map that is in a wooded area with big ridge in the middle, so basically it's a horse shoe with the main bases at either end...I cannot remember the name of it for the life of me. I want to say Battle of the Bulge, but I know that's not it.
Well, anyway, the main base doesn't have a flak gun and I had some wiener flying around above the main base taking out every tank and airplane as the spawned. Now I know this is part of the game, but it just ticked me off that we could do NOTHING about it. We couldn't get a plane in the air, nor could we shoot him down with flak. It was really frustrating. Needless to say we lost that battle big because we had no armor and no air support.
I just thought of something that could be used as a "commander" so to speak in BF1942.
You could have one player not play at all and just coordinate grunt movements from watching the minimap. If you wanted to make it even easier, but not as fun, you could turn free camera on and have the "commander" use that to coordinate the movements and have some sort of leadership guide you.
What do you guys think? Do you think it would work? Now, I'm also not talking about with just any people, I'm talking about people who would actually listen.
Hell, I don't know, it might even actually work on a public server...you never know.
I'm willing to have someone boss me around, that's what makes it realistic. Hopefully once the ACG clan gets everything set up with CoD they will move on to set up Battlefield.

Don't wait for CoD. Go for it. The more we get out there, the better.
Scuud, place a call to arms for BF:42. If the time is right, I'll be there.
The problem is that we need management and s 1-5 to get set up, as well as probably a website before we can start doing anything. But once all of that is done, I would be happy to help with Battlefield games.

Kursk I believe? Main bases on either end (N/S) and 2 secondary bases at E/W ends?
You do realize that you can fire MGs and the like at flying planes - this will knock them out fairly quickly as I don't believe they can repair their plane unless they land and there's an engy nearby. I think that's a peeve of mine - how easy it is to take out planes.

No, I found out it was Kharkov...

i think my biggest pet peeve in the vanilla BF1942 was the number of snipers. i have often seen games where 50% of the force consists of snipers...and all of us know that won't win you flags easily without a good force balance! ha ha
Forgotten Hope limits snipers (one or two kits/map) and that made a world of difference to me!
another peeve...repairing YOUR vehicle and someone else jumps in it and drives away!! arghhhhhhh
There was some discussion about locking vehicles but IIRC this is not possible in the game and/or mods.
(maybe they could mod the game where you can repair vehicle from inside but at slower rate and no other action can be performed while undergoing the repair?)

Yes, I hate that myself. It's akin to pulling your car into a gas station and while refuelling it, someone drives off in it!
Plane camping is another peeve (waiting for planes to respawn).
Too many snipers - if that was how the war was won, fine! ...but it certainly wasn't...

I often see 3-5 folks hanging around waiting to grab the next plane to spawn (on occasion TKs result). Then the folks who were too slow to grab the plane will destroy or damage the plane with gunfire! rather childish!! Fortunately, my flying skills are so bad I never attempt to fly a plane!
yeah, If I knew nothing about WW2 and started playing BF1942 I would assume all standing armies consisted of 50% snipers!:D
