View Full Version : Community games
I've been away for a couple days so I didn't see this before, but it looks like we have some people that would like to play together from the boards on Suchey's server.
In this thread we can plan out any community scrimmages, or things of that nature. Sounds like you have already had one session (sorry I missed it), would you guys like to have another?
Also, if you can post your AIM/xfire/CoD names here that would be great!
AIM: overclockerintel
xfire: gobeavs
CoD: gobeavs
Mine's the same as it is here.

Forgot to mention, do we have enough interest to have a monthly/weekly/bimonthly gaming session from us ACG folks? (outside of the clan)
You guys are welcome to stop by anytime! Had a blast!
Suggestions in regard to the server are most certainly welcome as well...what does everybody prefer? TDM, Search and Destroy, Headquarters, etc etc? Right now the server just has a little of everything on it and VOTE is on to allow the players to decide what to play. TDM seemed to be the most popular choice for the evening. I personally prefer something a little more objective oriented. What do you guys think?
Personally, I like S&D. I like it because you don't get infinite lives each time. Deathmatches and variations (TDM) just seem to beckon run-and-gunners since there really isn't a penalty for dying. In Search and Destroy, you don't want to die since you have to sit out the rest of the round, and it requires more team tactics since you have an objective.
But that is just my take, what did you guys play on your server Suchey? Sorry I missed it...
TDM won the vote more often than not for some reason, but we got in a few S&D missions as well. I feel the same way about the TDM, they are OK, but its a bit too much run and gun for me. Maybe Ill set it up to run particular game types on particular nights? HQ and SD are my personal favorites game types. The only thing I dont like is that when you die you have to sit there with your thumb up your ass for the rest of the round...I guess that both good and bad though.
What about firendly fire settings? Personally, Im ALL for friendly fire ON...I think it keep the players head in the game more, but until theres a good community of regular players there, I have had it set up for "reflective" damage. Its a little unrealistic, but it helps get the point across that you dont wanna shoot your buddys.
Yeah. FF is a funny setting. For us ACG guys who now the biz, FF on would probably be the best setting. What I think is kinda hard about what FF to put it on is with public servers. Sometimes I could be laying down some fire at a position, and some guy will come walking right in my fire; none of it is my fault, but with reflective FF on I get the punishment for it. But if you have FF on, sometime people get jumpy and accidentally shoot their teammates (I am guilty of this), and it isn't really fair for the victim. Also, having FF on means TK'ers can do damage to others... Its tough...
TDM won tonight because of the lack of players during Search and Destroy, it became a "snipe" fest. I like objective stuff better. If you want a good objective MOD, I tried "heat of battle" tonight and it seemed alright. If scheduling regular time/day/week makes it easier for people to show up then I'd say go for it. I like knowing who I'm playing, so if you guys are gonna play, I'll play. Oh, here's my info:
AIM: ordinaryDS
XFire: brill
CoD/DoD/CS/UT2k4: _Brill_
Thanks again for the fun frag fest. I can't wait until next time.
_Brill_
If we have a regular gaming session would that work for people? Or does everyone have their hands full with the clan or other things?
More importantly, would you want to?
For game types my favorites are HQ and S&D. The friendley fire thing is tough, I dont relly like it on because like you guys said you get team killers and on modes like S&D that can screw up the entire game. But for relisim you should have it on and if people are getting trigger happy with there team mates you can always hold a vote to kick the player.
Also what is this ACG server you guys are talking about?

As far as TK'ing goes, from my DoD experience, setting TK limits on the server works really well. The server I play at has it set to 2 concurrent and 4 total for the map duration. If you reach those levels you are kicked, but have the option to rejoin. It also takes close attention to the action from the admin playing on the map. If they see something out of the ordinary warn, and then kick/ban. Just my thoughts....

Well, I don't yet have CoD. Nor do I have broadband at this time. But I will! And then, you guys, look out, 'cause I'll be in there throwing my cyberblood all over your servers!
X-Fire: webwarrior
AIM: ACGJim
MSN: Jim H. Moreno
Looking forward to it!
On a side note...I just added a search function to the stats page so that it will be easier for folks to find themselves.

In my limited experience I found that CoD actually does decently online with a 56k modem.

I would prefer just about anything but DM or TDM. Any game where team work pays, and anything else pays back. I prefer friendly fire. Keeps you honest.
Suchey, Thanks for having us over (on your server for those who missed it). It was a blast.
As far as frequency, as long as we don't overdo our welcome at DigitalGrenade, I would say whenever enough guys want to play.
A reminder: When you play anytime for ACG or with others from ACG, please be sure to send me the results. As we start getting enough data, I can start posting how well (or poorly) you are doing.
Anytime! The server is up 24 hours a day 7 days a week! Enjoy!

Why not set it to off?
Because it is unrealistic.
I found a server side mod that allows for BOTH reflective and regular friendly fire to be on at the same time...in short, it delivers damage to BOTH the shooter and the guy he shot on accident. Any thoughts on this?
On a side note, If anyone is looking for a few rounds practice, Ill be on the server this evening at around 8pm Central time (thats 20:00 GMT I believe). The more the merrier!

I will make every effort, but can't promise being there at the start.
8:00 PM is 2000 Local time. CT is 6 hours behind GMT, making 8 PM CT equivalent to 0200 GMT, the next morning.
For the rest of the country, it would be
ET 9:00 PM
CT 8:00 PM
MT 7:00 PM
PT 6:00 PM
See ya.
Cheers
Oooops...didnt mean to put that G in the GMT...in any case...thanks for the time conversion!
See you guys there!

Thats ok. Compromise never is really good for both sides I guess. At least with this if some guy walks in front of your BAR while firing, he will be punished :)

So will you, through no fault of your own.
In real life, there would be no reflective damage, unless your grenade bounced off your buddy.
When we look at stats, and recommendations come in for awards and promotions, we'll look at "friendly fire". Too many, and you don't get promoted or rewarded. A couple can be accidents. Too many would be careless.
In the haze of distance, you can get trigger happy. it happens. It is unfortunate. It is a fact.
I say go with the risk.
Suchey, Do your stats record being killed by friendly fire, and visa versa?

Yeah, but if it is just reflective on, then he isn't punished. If no FF is on, it is unrealistic, and if FF is on, he is punished but in other parts in the game if you get jumpy and shoot a teammate, he dies through no fault of his own. FF is a touchy option.
For this evening festivities, I will turn on Friendly Fire and see how it goes. I will also limit the map rotation to "objective" type games (Search and Destroy, Head Quarters, etc.). This is actually how I would personally prefer to keep the server, but we will see how things go!
The smaller the maps the better too... I personally prefer "urban rubble" maps. :)

And having your bullets bounce off the person who you shot at and hit you isn't?

You can't take my quote out of context, I said " If no FF is on, it is unrealistic,". I said it is unrealistic if no FF is on, I never said to go with reflective since it is realistic. I don't recall saying reflective FF is realistic.
I thought the games with Friendly Fire went rather well last night. Thats the first time I have ever tried the "behind enemy lines mode"...not bad if your short on players for a proper game of HQ or SD.

Hey, I'm not critising you; don't get defensive.
If that's the only strike against FF off, then it would be better than reflect, wouldn't it? Because reflective FF you'd take damage if some moron walked in front of you while you were firing, and it's unrealistic, but with FF off it's just unrealistic. But like you said, if it's just us we should go with on.

I thought they went well too. I hit BB while he was on my own team though, so he may not share my opinion :)

Sorry, got a little hot there :)
Since we are a military clan, having FF off would be too unrealistic. FF on I think would be the best for us when we are fighting in-clan, because since we are a military based clan we might as well have it as real as possible (within reason).
With reflective at least the guy that steps in front of you while you are firing takes some damage, so its a little more realistic. And it punishes you if you are to jumpy.
reflective is rubbish. doesn't make sense. FF=on, if you TK just shrug off the TK, stop camping, and move forward!! :thumb:
I kid, I kid!! seriously though, only FF=on

yeah, your own cyberblood from getting shot!!:P :P
ha ha...not to worry! I make good target and blood for people in CoD! I'm so lousy I feel fortunate when I can make 2-4 kills in one match!
I put in a server side "capture the flag" game type mod in tonight...players DO NOT need to download anything. Connect as normal with your normal install of CoD , but the CTF game type will now be available. (actually, I changed it to be capture the documents as the default "documents" models were less intrusive). In any case, give it a try! I think this will be a good additional game type for CoD as it allows for respawn and still hold an objective based game type!
( could also change it to capture the radio, or equipment bag, etc etc...if the "documents" models end up being too small Ill change it, but they flash like an objective, so I think they will work out fine.)

Sounds good, I'll have to try it out.
A few folks are gonna try out the CTF mode this evening...if anyone is interested in giving it a whirl...swing by the server.

Hey guys...a few of us have been suing XFire to hook up for games. Its a good instant messaging program specifically designed for gamers and its free- http://www.xfire.com/
If your interested in playing a bit more, download it and add me! My username is "suchey".
I have been using xfire for a bit now...and I think it is a must have. The ability to join the server your friends are playing on is awesome.
