I don't know what sort of interest it would draw, but shouldn't we put Mantis out of his misery?

He often shouts that he wants to chat, but no one will talk to him in the chat room :hush:

Perhaps if we set up a regular slot for chat, say Sundays Nights 19.00hrs EST for example, then all those who wanted to could turn up and chat away with like-minded others about whatever topics they wish.

I know I'd like to chat with others, even if it's just to ask how to beat my latest opponent in my latest battle (Kharkov 42 as the Axis vs Tigersqn btw) :skull:

Maybe those interested could suggest optimum times for such a general get together, remembering that players live in all time zones all over the world.

We could even run themed sessions such as debates, discussions and Promotion Ceremonies for those with High rank etc etc.

Just a thought anyway, dunno how other peeps feel about it?? Perhaps I am a genius, or maybe just way off the mark.

You are a genius! This is a great way to get people together and chat...when you KNOW other people will be there. Now, about that time thing... :)

the timeing is the problem.

besides it's more fun to watch mantis's bubble burst when noone shows up when he posts. esp when 30 minutes later I notice adn join after he's left, post the fact, and then he does annother hy/bye run 15 minutes later after I've wondered off.

Great idea - especially themed topics ...

Timing may be an issue, this may only work at weekends when more people can be on-line during the day time.

I think this is a great idea. We just need to find someone to organize/administer the chat sessions.

How does 4pm EST on Sunday 15th of Feb sound to people? That give us over a week to change schedules and allows for US Warfarers and European Warfarers to be not too early and not to late respectively.

I'll apologise now for anyone who lives somewhere that makes this a bad time but you can't please all the people..... etc etc.

And anyone with any specific topics they wished to discuss could post them on a new thread so we know what to expect.

any alternative/ better times that people can think of let us know so that we are aware of when to be in the chat room.

fabulous idea, but could somebody 4 p.m. EST translate into GMT time for me?
Sorry guys, I can't quit the habit to take GMT as universal time line... ;)

9pm gmt

Evileye_xc
06 Feb 03, 18:51
Strangely enough I'm kind of used to EST these days. But for different reasons.

4pm EST is 9pm GMT as Dan says. Making it nighttime for us Brits, but afternoonish for the US contingent

Let me just blanket reply by saying:

You're all a bunch of smart-asses!! :cheeky:

Dan -> ROFLMAO

Not a bad idea overall. Someone should make sure to keep adding things to this thread as the day draws near, to keep it on the top of the message list so people will remember.

We also used to make a habit of popping in to chat at the top of the hour (a universal time) for a few minutes, and see what happened. Had alot of good impromptu chats that way.

I made it a sticky thread for a little while. If someone plans a firm date for a chat session we can post a new thread with the time on it and I will stick that to the top instead. That way we will all be able to easily see the chat time for our "planned" meetings!

No one said they had a problem with this time slot.....??

All things being equal 4pm EST sounds ok for me.
Now what's the topic?

I vote for; "How to beat the pants off of a top ten player!" :D

Sure, sounds like a plan to me! I won't be talkin', I'll be takin' notes!

'Twas a good one last nite. Tied a record for the most people, and set one for the most active chat session! Next time that happens, I hope I have a few brews in the fridge!

It was nice of Tiberius to buy all those rounds, but beers somehow don't taste quite as good in a virtual setting!

OK, seeing no other suggestions I have posted the original time for the chat on Sunday. My assumption on time is that eastern time is 5 hours behind GMT but feel free to correct my math if incorrect. :)

The first chat session is going to be "open chat" just to get everyone familiar with things and so we can see who actually shows up. Of course, if you want to talk about "how to beat a top 10 player" I would be happy to oblige! :cheeky:

Hope to see many of you there and I will try to make it as well!

Play an opponent with more time that skill. the top10 isn't made exclusively of crack/elite players. :D

Isn't Sunday the 16th?

That's true enough. If you played enough, you could lose every game, and still be in the top 10. Check out the 'Ladder by experience' as well. No slam to James or Brian, but Richard probably has the most impressive record on the board, although that's not apparent with just a casual glance. I'm hoping to work my way towards Richard's consistency, with the sheer number of victories that James and Brian are amassing!

:surprise:

Who's going to moderate this thing or will it be like other "useless" chatrooms (which I now avoid like the plague)with 20 people talking over each other & going no where fast?

Second topic idea: rules & "things" you do all the time and thought everyone else knew them as well. :OHNO:

I'll try to show up tomorrow. If I am there I could help moderate...assuming there is enough peeps to necessitate a moderator. As for what we talk about that might be up to you guys. We'll just have to see how it plays out...but it won't just be a big batch of chaos.

We set a new record of "Ten in the Box" at once.

See you all next time!

Today's chat was fun. It was my first real go at being in a chat room, and this chat virgin was quickly deflowered--and behind on his typing speed.

Biggest disappointment? Cheetah722 was there but no Marko. We'll have to schedule it so those two can be in the room next time :cheeky:

nah. that grudge match should be held on IRC. have someone setup a bot that'll let them freely kick eachother from the channel but prohibit any bans and let them tear into each other.

Hello,

Fading Captain, you have just committed a heinous crime: misspelling my screenname. It is Cheetah772, not Cheetah722.

Beware, I have placed your name on my list of enemies, perhaps, I should place you next to Marko, which speaks volume of my so-called "hatred" of him. The only thing I am debating, is should I place you top over him, or second to him?

It's really a long and hard debate, which will make the UN's debates look like a piece of cake... :D

Just kidding,
Dan :D

I always knew Cheetah was a closet Euro. His italicized spelling of his name gives it away. Probably born in some sleepy Tuscan Villa...

But seriously, a good time was had by all.

Hello,

Oh goosh, you've just discovered my dark secret, JAM!

No, seriously, I'm a half-Euro, if yu will, my father came from Hungary, he escaped in 1960s shortly after the famous uprising of 1956.

Thus, I am half-Hungarian and German (my mother's side), hehe.

Yeah, I had a good time in chatroom that is until Tiberius had to mention I was being blacklisted by a bunch of elite players in TAOW community! :D

The subject of this weekend's chat will be the next Tournament here at HQ. Be thinking about formats you would like to see, scenarios types (era's), and time frames.

Also, be thinking about what to do with drop-outs! :hurt:
