If you have just purchased the game and don’t know where to start, this thread is for you.

Step1: Once you have installed the game you’ll need to install the latest patch, which is version 1.6. To get this patch go to http://www.eagames.com/official/battlefield/1942/us/gamedemo.jsp?state=010010

Step 2: Though the single-player portion of the game is not as enjoyable as multi-player, it is a good place for you to become familiar with all the vehicles, weapons, and maps the game has to offer. If you have not played the game before, I would recommend you play a few single-player games before you go online (be sure to practice flying).

Step 3: When you are ready to go online, you will notice a wide selection of servers to choose from. I would recommend you join one that has a population of 32 or over so you have a good amount of players on both teams. At the far right end of the server menu will be the map that server is currently on. The map you choose to start out on is entirely up to you. You should though, try to join a server that is on a map you played in single-player.

If any other Battlefield vets out there have anything to add to this list, please feel free to do so.

When joining a multiplayer game, make sure the ping of the server is at most 300. Under 200 is preferable. If the ping is to high, the server will have a lot of lag.

It helps to realise the differences between bots and humans early on.

For example, in wake bots will stick to the land and there is a definate "front". However, when playing wake with humans, they turn up everywhere. Basically all this means is to stay on your toes when playing with other people.

You might want to stay away from Omaha for your first multiplayer maps. Chances are good that you'll be stuck as an ally.
