How is this one going so far?
I just happened to be doing my (Russian) turn 5 and was feeling so disgusted about the poor quality of the defense I was putting together north of the Tartu-Parnu line (which I just abandoned) that I figured I'd check here for new posts. I am trying to delay him here long enough to put together a line from lake Onega to the coast which I will hope to hold for a while. It looks like he has mainly infantry driving north here while his panzers drive toward Pskov to skirt the lake to the south. There is a patchwork defense being assembled for Pskov (which was supposed to have been well planned, but...) including a couple of armored trains which are trapped there behind blown bridges.
Finns are advancing all over the place and I am trying to pull out of the Karelian isthmus in hopes of finding some units to plug the holes which are huge everywhere. (I already abandoned Hango and the forces from there are now part of the disorganized delay north of Tartu) The Germans in the far north are crushing everything in front of them. Thank god for the brutal northern terrain. (amazing map by the way - it's great to have such detailed and varied terrain to get destroyed in)
I just checked expected reinforcements and I have 1 (one!) unit arriving next turn.

In the South, try and send some units behind his lines and then go on a bridge blowing rampage. There aren't a ton of roads and all of the roads intersect at clear supply choke points. As the German player advances closer and closer to Leningrad (with a seeming effortlessness) his supply situation gets more and more shaky as he advances forward rapidly and gains a ton of that expansive Russian territory. Even if he has reserves behind his front, he probably cannot cover all of that ground quickly enough to stop you from doing a lot of damage. How did I come up with this suggestion? I discovered it the hard way as the German player playing against Raver :)
In the north, which has horrible terrain and not many roads, you can also play the supply game against the Finns with your guerrilla units.
As the Russian player you have a tough challenge at the start, but remember that you only get stronger as reinforcements flow in practically each turn.
Decision in the North is a fantastic scenario! Have fun with it.

Hi, just seconding Fading Capitan's comments. I think that anything you can do to muck the Germans up in the initial stages is >very< useful. It might seem like you have zero units to do anything but hold your lines (and not even that :)) but if you can slip a couple of units through, divide them up and blow every bridge in sight, you can ultimately win the prize of slowing the German onslaught down. Do this especially if he bypasses one of your garrisons.
Oh, and make sure you check your monitor, sometimes units that look blood red on your screen are in fact a blazing green colour in reality ;) (pokes the Capitan in the ribs)

Well there is a story ... a very long and convoluted one. It involves tales of airdrops on capital cities, murder, intrigue and deception. And bananas .... .... always the bananas.
Sounds like an epic tale. We should all gather 'round the fire, and make sure our drinks are full!;)

If we're lucky, maybe Richard Dawson...I mean Maddog, might even be able to once again supply us with some of those happy little PSS's (pot smoking smilies)!
I mean, a campfire, various refreshing beverages, a great story of intrigue...it's all that's missing!

Actually, you forgot to add scores of voluptous, scantilly clad women of questionable moral character. But that's not all. These women will also be able to perceptively debate the optimum sloping angle for tank armor, what would have truly been the correct deployment of Axis reserves at Normandy, and why Union general George B. McClellan was the greatest a$$ that ever held the title of general. . .

Oh, I doubt there would be any question at all about the moral character of said women... :devious:

God forbid! That would mean that they could actually understand us, then where would we be...
(Maddog last seen strapping on body armor)
Don't worry, Maddog...
They're probably all lesbians anyways.

Here´s a quick update:
After turn 12 the situation is a draw (-1 from my point of view). Tallinn and Pskov were captured on turn 8 (July 16th), and Soviet Baltic Fleet was eliminated.
German front goes approximately on the lines between Ostashkov, Staraja Russa, Novgorod, Luga, Polna and Narva.
Finnish Army reached the stop line at Karelian Isthmus on turn 9, Petroskoi and Aunus was captured on turn 10. Attack towards Louhi suffered heavy supply problems, but combined German/ Finnish forces are now 5 hexes from Kantalahti and 2 hexes from Murmansk.
And then suddenly:

Hey, I´m learning to use these map images...
Here´s the situation after my part of the turn 17 (8/17/41). Arrows show the latest advancement routes. For some strange reason my TOAW-maps (map dumps) have those odd vertical lines in them.

No GeForce, Voodoo 3x Banshee it is. Should I make a new database for it? ;)
