Humans with ghosts (nukes) and wraiths.
My strategies would not help you win, but it might make the other person give up in frustration over how long the game is taking....assuming you survive the early rush:P

Best bit was the Human voices - all the various sci-fi spoofs when you clicked on a Marine or whatever.
Got rid of my copy some time ago though.

classic game! Still have my copy somewhere...
I loved playing the Human. Mostly 2/3 vs. 5/6 comps!
build bunkers and tanks quickly...marines against zerg, marines and flame units against 'toss. If you survive the rushes you can do the ghosts and nukes method or the battlecruiser fleet (I'm sure there are tons of other combos...part of the fun ofthe game!)

Just this w/e I found out it doesn't do XP networks.... the game is designed to play in a LAN under IPX protocols and WinXP doesn't have them, doesn't use them, and won't allow them (at least easily).

I was gonna say I've played blizzard games. I liked a couple of them a little bit.
The diablo games bored the crap out of me. It was like playing Gauntlet, but less fun.
Warcraft I and II were good, III was amusing, but nothing new enough to interest me.
Starcraft had some fun moments, but ultimately the game just wasn't interesting enough for me.

Diablo was a click-fest of frustration sometimes that's why newer games have taken it and removed the 'click for each attack' and let you click once to attack until it's dead... or dead again if it's undead.
SC and the WCs were (at the time) the best RTSs out there... but if you're not into RTSs... well, the games didn't work for you. There's lots of FPSs that don't work for me even though they good games (or so I'm told).
I love RTS games though :P

Well a recent penny-arcade report about it says that the stealth of the game seems to be giving significant way to the "machine gunning hundreds of zerglings down per mission" style game play. Remember... you're playing a ghost... you know... those cloaked ones...

doesn't this look awesome. i bet ya when u beat the game to, they might have as a reward the original starcraft on there.
It looks pretty good, but from what I've heard the gameplay is what took a slide.
the only problem with starcraft was that you couldn't slow it down. For example, only experts could use medics' and ghosts' abilities in a game because the game was too overwhelming for other players.
My favorite strategy was playing a 3v3 island map, making turrets 6 rows deep on the shore, and then putting random ones behind the lines with command centers over them, that way they couldn't be targeted.

Either doing what I call the "Protoss Crawl" (Moving forward building those Dual-Purpose energy cannons) or as the humans I'll have a defensive perimeter sooooo deep ringed by turrets and supported by TONS AND TONS of units and try p off the other players so they come at me while my friend raids their bases. We got a pretty good system going. He plays on these "Lord of the Rings" maps which were made years ago but have made a comeback.

i just have a diversonary attack at the front with marines, then i hae dropships full of men pour over the defences and unload as much as they can before they blow up. i might have wraiths in there to to distract the missle turrets. its a costly procedure but it works.

Or cloak your wraiths and wipe them out before they know what's happening. My race is Terran. If all goes well, my strike force consists of:
24 Marines
12 Goliaths
12 Siege Tanks
24 Wraiths
12 Battlecruisers
2 Science Vessels
1 Comsat Station
1 Partrage in a Pear Tree

those missle turrets wouldnt be a problem for me. id send wraiths in before, while they were fighting id send in dozens of dropships full of men over the missle turrets and into your base. tanks, men, goliaths, firebats, ghosts nuking would come over and destroy your base. then id clean up with some battle cruisers.

Or, if you have time and money, use the BC's Yamato gun, and slowly wipe out their turrets until you cleared a patch to land ground units on. Then the turrets are useless, so I usually use turrets to supplement marine-filled bunkers and mobile unit defenses.
V67
Ug, I don't ONLY have missle turrets, what do you think I am, an Idiot?(don't answer that:D ) I usually try to build a dozen b-ships, 1 or 2 dozen wraiths, and then goliaths and ghosts mixed in with the turrets, if and when I attack I just pick them up with some drop ships.
I mainly play to annoy though, for example, when I know I'm going to lose I just scatter my 20 or so command centers all over the map and try to start as many minie colonies as possible, 1 CC, a barracks, some missle turrets, some marines, if I'm lucky some goliaths, they usually find me before I get there though.
and it's not just 6 solid blocks of missle turrets, they're staggerd so as to fit in goliaths, sorry I didn't clarify that earlier.
I also like typing " Nuclear Launch Detected"
it freaks out all of the noobs.

i like being protoss in the expansion, and mind controlling other races miner guys and using there technology against them. so i could be playing you, starting out as protoss, and take over a scv, and kill you with terran.
Ideally yes, but does mind controling ever really work against human players? I don't know about you, but I think it would be pretty hard to get an scv out of my base unless you wanted a full escort, in which case the escort could probably kill me.

one of the easiest way to get a zerg drone, is to take over a overlord that is flying around. they usualy have one in there and u just fly it back to your base.
The_Tactician
19 Jul 04, 15:09
Zerg all the way! I love burrowing zerglings at the entrance of my base about where enemy siege tanks can set up. When they do I have my zerglings pop out and attack at close range. Or have two lines of burrowed things. The first line is zerglins and the second is Hydralisks. I wait until enemy units are right between the two groups before I pop them out and trap the enemy in a massive slaughter.:demon: Heh heh heh. I also love building multiple bases so when the enemy moves all of its units out to attack my main base, I send in the units from the lower bases and win easily. Guardians rule!!!!

I hate guardains with a passion. There so cheap and annoying. I usualy have a hotkey of wraiths somewhere to intercept there damn things but if you don't, they can do alot of damage in a short amount of time. I like the protoss carriers the best. A couple of scouts escorting them and a wave of ground units makes a war machine that cannot be stopped.

along the lines of that, it's also fun to either rush in the beginning of a game to get a medic with blind, and go blind the overlord they have scouting/patroling, or to send 2-3 valkaries into their overlord swarm to have some fun.

That's why I ALWAYS use science vessals. Put a couple at the front of the advance. One time, I found a HUGE group of buried zerglings and hydralisks, so I nuked them and about 3/4 of the enemy army was wiped out.

When i defend my base i but a line of bunkers. Then some missle turrtes around them. Then a row of siege tanks. Then some science vessels. Then some wraiths. Then a battle cruiser for each bunker. So basicly nothing can get in through the ground entrance through my base. So i just but missle turrets all around my base to defend air. Ill put a few wraiths and valkeries on partol around there. Then some goliaths patroling around on the ground. Its a fool proff defence thats no one can get through.

Well ultimately it's not that hard to get them out, but it takes forever, and I've watched Terran players that just sit there and never even think to mount an offensive of their own. One of the reasons why I didn't like Starcraft. Besides the coolest thing about starcraft was how it was taken so heavily from WH40k, but soon Dawn of War will be out so it doesn't matter! :D

Or two dozen Protoss carriers perhaps? That would get through his defences and his two dozen battleships. And with those battle ships id have a dozen scouts escorting the battle ships. Then id have a couple of those guys that cloak protoss guys. Then off hand id have a few dropships full of zealots. Thats how'd i would break in.

Just hope he doesn't use Yamato Gun, in my opinion the most underused weapon in the game. He can use it, if it's 24 carriers to 24 battlecruisers to reduce your carrier fleet by half. Then have a fun time outnumbered two to one.

If it was a straight 24 battle cruisers to 24 carriers i think the carriers would win. After the Yamato's gone the carriers would just swamp the battleships. It all depends who iniated the fight first. And the protoss have shields also. Id like to have a battle like that some time.

I think whichever side the human was playing would win. I'll make a map like that. It also depends on upgrades, especially the +4 interceptor upgrade.
Stats:
Battlecruiser:
HP: 500
Shields: 0
Armor: 3(+1 per upgrade)
Damage: 25(+3 per upgrade)
Carrier:
HP: 350
Shields: 100
Armor: 4(+1 per upgrade)
Damage: 6 per interceptor(+1 per upgrade)
I'll try the map and let you know of the results.
V67
Well, here are the results. Very surprising ones I might add.(Key: B=Battlecruisers C=Carriers)
With all upgrades:
Me as B: B won
Me as C: B won
With all upgrades except Carrier Capacity and Yamato Gun:
Me as B: B won
Me as C: B won
With no upgrades:
Me as B: B won
Me as C: B won
Result: If you're expecting fleet battles, build Scouts. Use Carriers for taking out buildings and ground units.
I thought the Carriers would win sometimes.

Your right, it depends on if your expecting air battles with the enemy. Usualy you use air either to mop up after a battle or as a pre battle strike. Or as transport. But the chances of a 12 carriers on 12 battle cruisers is slim. But what I hate the most is the zerg suicide guys. 60 minerals worth can wreck a battle ship or carrier.

Argh. I hate the scourge. They really are the scourge of the skies (har!). Yeah, any expensive starship is at grave risk from them. One time, my friend had a bunch of BCs, and he set them at the entrace to his base, then the enemy kept sending scourge right to his BCs, but he had enough BCs to kill all the scourge before they got to do damage. It was like a turkey shoot, a BC can take out a scourge in one shot, it was fun to watch!

I like having a dragoons, 2 thick across the entence to you base. Make them stand there ground and put a arbiter over top of them to cloak them. When the enemy attacks they won't be able to see the dragoons and you can easily destroy them.
