Playing a game of Germany 84 as Warsaw Pact.

I noticed that when my opponent nukes me, the effects, ie. fallout, spreads over a much greater area than is the case for WP nukes.

The NATO nuke fallout covers a radius extending to the east approx. 8-12 hexes while the WP nukes only cover about 4-6 hexes extending to the east.
And that is for 1 MT blasts.

I understand that the prevailing winds will carry the fallout eastward but can anybody answer me why NATO nukes have such a greater effect than WP nukes?
Are NATO nukes inherently "dirtier" than those from the WP??

Just wondering.

Check the yields. I would bet the NATO forces are using FAT MEN bombs, while the WP units are using Little Boys. The size will determine the mess they make.

Having played both sides of this scenario, I seem to recall the largest NATO nuke available was 1.4 MT. As the WP, the largest I've seen so far was 1 MT. Would a .4 MT increase double the fallout??

fallout is more a function of how the bomb is detonated (air v groundburst) then megatonnage, but I've no idea of toaw factors than in it's calcuations. the etra 400ktons would only increase the blast radious by about 11% (1/R^3)
