It isn't brand new, but I decided to download Experience WW2, a mod for the awesome Battlefield 1942, because it said it offered new weapons, always a plus for Battlefield 1942. I downloaded and installed this mod, played it and was deeply pleased. The new mod featured my favorite gun of the WW2 era, the M1 Carbine ! ! ! It also featured the Springfield rifle, the M1 Garand (not released in Retail version of game), several new weapons for the Russian and Japanese (The names are too long for me to remember), and NEW SOUNDS to replace the cruddy ones of the original Battlefield versions. It is a MUCH more realistic mod and has a downloadable map pack, too. It is a GREAT mod and I highly recommend it to all Battlefield gamers. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do !

YES!! IMHO this is the most realistic mod for BF1942. My only complaint is that it is hard to find populated servers running the mod. For that reason I mainly play the Forgotten Hope mod.

I'm still pushing these mods to include suppressive fire and SMOKE for more realism.
(I can often tag a MG42 gunner with my rifle before he gets me due to shooting accuracy and I am not at all bothered (in game terms :D ) of having 20-30 MG42 bullets per second hitting in my immediate vicinity!! ha ha)

I tried out BF1942 once and it saddened me that it lacked in the accuracy department...

I agree! Especially when the manual tips include "an effective method to destroy a tank is to ram your jeep into it..."

After discovering the Forgotten Hope and XWW2 mods I never went back to the original.

I've also heard good things about a WW2 mod for Unreal Tournement 2004 called Red Orchestra (?).

What's your opinion of Call of Duty (if you have it)? I finally got it to work in my computer!! I'm looking forward to trying this game out online.

Forgotten Hope is also a good Mod if you're looking for realism.

Call of Duty is in my opinion a much better game than BF 1942, its just more realistic and has better graphics. BF's strong point is the multiplayer stuff, which is way better than single player, but call of duty is great in both areas.
