Maybe i got too much time on my hands,or not enough, but anyway here goes.

How come when a unit is split by combat it always gets split into three and never two?

Good question. My assumption is that the intent is to have the survivors as weakened and scattered as possible without the immediate destruction of the unit. This way, the pieces are more easily overrun, and used as movement accelerators for subsequent attacks throughout the balance of the turn.

Good answer.Follow up then:)

Why do all the units have the same amount of equipment?i highly doubt if your bugging out that your making sure each unit is getting 1/3rd 105mm howitzers 1/3rd AT+ squads and so on.

Probably because the game engine uses the same subroutine for forced breakdowns, as it does for a voluntary one.

In other words, "That's just the way we do things, 'round here..."

In a similar vein, if, hypothetically, one of my units has been beaten down to 1 attack/ 1 Defence and I then divide it into three smaller units each still has 1 attack/ 1 defence. Have I trebled my attacking capability with that unit as I now have 3 units with a 1 attack? Should I be dividing down all the units I have which have onyl 1/1 left?

the numbers are just a rough approximation to make it easier to compare units strength. Two 1-1 can have a very different combat ability and if you break down your 1-1 into three 1-1s every one of these new units will have less than 1/3 of the original uits strenght (divided = loss of proficiency = lesser combat power)

So basically it's a crap tactic and I shouldn't both using it in anger?!?!

hehe, wish I'd known that a week ago!

it's not entirely crap, it depends on what you try to achive. If you have to cover a broad front you coud use these Ants as scouts to detect enemy units trying to sneak behind your lines.
Or if you have one very powerfull unit that is against many weak units ist better to devide the big one to prevent it from being encircled and cut off from supply by these ants.

Dosen't the engine calculate combat from individual equipment totals rather than icon indicated strengths anyways?
