Great game, although I havnt played in a while
still, one thing I didnt think was too realistic was the time i was rammed by a desroyer and didnt sink, exspetialy wierd because it sat on me for about 3 minutes.
also, there wasn't a way to get resuplied at sea (to my knowlege)
Great game... And far easier to play than it's younger brother, Destroyer Command...
One thing that annoy me, and I think all Sub sims (to my knowledge) have this problem: You seems alone in the ocean!... No friendly AI U-boot to try a wolfpack attack...
That said, it's still fun to torpedoes destroyers and sinking cargo ships with Deck/AA gun... :thumb:

Sadly I have both still in the shrinkwrap waiting their turn to be played... so many games, so little time between work days...
You guys should head over to www.subsim.com
They have all kinds of mods out for SHII. There is even a mod for a Pacific Theater with US subs called Pacific Aces. They do ask that you pay a "donation" of $5-25 to help maintain the web site in order to obtain the Pacific mod.

I was a big fan of the first Silent Hunter...played that one to no end. I think I quit when I finally sunk an aircraft carrier and lived to tell the tale.
However, even with all the realistic settings on there were ways to play the game that ensured you wouldn't get sunk. Not unless you completely ran out of torpedos. At that point, I was always screwed, because I was never able to shake off patrolling destroyers by diving deep. Sometimes if you're only left with one or two destroyers and you're good at the deck gun, you can surface and gun them down before they put so many holes in you, you start to sink.
In the campaign game, I only had trouble with the first crappy sub you get. Just doesn't have enough fire power to tackle more than a two destroyers and have a chance to sink some cargo ships. And no radar.
I haven't played SHII as I am pretty sure my crusty old computer can't handle it. But I do wish someone would make a really good sub/ship sim. Something really massive that covers all of WWII where you can command everything from a battleship to a torpedo boat.
That would be f-ing cool
HMMM Pacific mod for Silent HunterII... hmmm...heheheheheh... get ready to meet your ancestors...

Good lord, they still have a review of Grey Wolf (http://www.subsim.com/subsim_reviews_index.html) which I wrote in 1993.

We play the game along with Destroyer command in the office when the boss is away. We have about 5 people on the lan, trying either to sink the sub or blow the hell out of a convoy. You should hear some of the comments:mad:
I hoped the best for Silent Hunter 2... I updated my computer while I was expecting it to be released... But IA is bad, in my opinion
