PRESS RELEASE: THE FUTURE OF COMPUTER HARPOON

ADVANCED GAMING SYSTEMS INC (www.advancedgaming.biz )
PUBLISHERS OF THE COMPUTER HARPOON PRODUCTS
APRIL 30, 2004

The Harpoon Admiralty and supporting Senior Staff are exploring all options
for creating "The Next Harpoon" (TNH). The constraints are of course,
people, time and money. While there has been some interest from commercial
publishers in the game, we will depend on an in-house development effort for
the near term.

TNH will combine the best features of the entire Harpoon family, as well as
adding new capabilities. TNH will be a faithful computer implementation of
the print Harpoon 4 rules set.

The Harpoon community will continue to be a vital part of this effort at all
levels. The community will be invited to bolster the efforts of the paid,
professional team. Selected members of the community will be invited to
work more closely with the development team based on their skills,
knowledge, and attitude.

The existing products will be maintained (and expanded) during this extended
development period and their legacy will be clearly evident in the TNH
product. We will continue to offer discounts to our loyal players when
purchasing new products.

In the immediate future you can look forward to the following Harpoon
enhancements:
· Harpoon Classic 2002 Gold - Western Pacific BattleSet and land units (now
in Beta, and a free update).
· Harpoon 3 Pro v1.1 - Umpire and Logging features.
· Harpoon 3 MP - Public Beta right after Harpoon 3 Pro v1.1 is released,
plus we are shooting for a Mac version!
· Harpoon 3 - Commercial versions of the Pro features (free update when
released).

Watch our web site, our affiliate's sites, and our user-moderated lists for
announcements of availability for these and future updates.

I thought the latest PC Harpoon effort went vapourware sometime back?

Is this a rebirth with a new name?

Yea, I remember that as well, Shane.

Thanks for the info and contact name, slick. I'll get in touch with him and see what I can steer our way.

“Harpoon4” by UbiSoft was eventually canceled due to a horrific development saga that lasted over five years and produce a alpha/beta version that had repeatable crashes.

I believe this is going to be a completely new attempt rather than trying to fix the Ubisoft code. At least I hope so.

I’d love to have an updated Harpoon with mobile ground units (among countless other things).

Have you purchased Harpoon3 or Harpoon2002?

They are the reworked and greatly improved versions of the above games. They now work on Windows XP with countless bugs fixed and many improvements in the works. They are in fact, new games as the old code had to be rewritten, but they just appear to be the old games.

You can try:

for more details and where to buy.

On a side note, I think they will still clear of the "Harpoon4" name as that just brings all kinds of bad memories and leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.
