I was just wondering, if anyone else happened to notice this funny thing. I have seen it in other games, but it seems to be big in BF1942. The community makes what they want, and the devs or other devs seem to play off it. Which is good for patches and such but whole other games?

I.E. - EoD is extremely popular and it does not seem to dissapoint the passerby. ---> DICE develops and releases BF:Vietnam

Galatic Conquest draws in the "geek" (Don't worry I'm with ya) community, and keeps it strong. ---> Lucasarts announces they will release Battlefront, a BF1942 style mp game based on starwars.

Desert Combat extremely popular mod for BF42, with a huge crowd. ---> Dice announces BF 2, a modern day combat game.

Hmmmmmm, I feel like I'm discovering a Conspiracy.

I think they all looked at what Halflife did. The mods kept the game in the public eye and ppl would buy it to "hey man, you gotta play this mod." The devs not only continued to make money on the original but then bought the best mods or like you say developed games based on a concept that is popular and made more money. It's all about the money. Smartest thing Valve did was release Worldcraft and use the amateur talent that was out there. I'm still playing mods based on Hallife, a 6 year old game; when most other games stay on my harddrive 6 months tops.
