For those interested in something a bit different to play over the holiday season, I have posted a revised War of the Ring scenario on the HQ Scenario page. There are a number of revisions, however, the major revision was to correct the game balance.
I am available for a game or two with anyone interested in chopping up orcs and elves.

How about posting the changes you made here along with the reasons for them.

The changes are not that many, a couple are mostly cosmetic but the majority have a substantial impact on the scenario.
Scenario changes version v03 to v03a:
1) Initial theater reconnaissance changed from 5% to a starting value of 0%. On turn 5 the value is increased to 5%.
2) Gollum’s starting position is increased from one location to one of three randomly selected locations. Gollum’s access to the West is greatly improved.
3) In general the orc and Dunlendings forces have been strengthened in order to achieve better play balance.
4) A theater option was added for Gondor to win when Frodo enters Mount Doom.
5) A winning condition was added for Sauron’s forces. Capturing the four elf kingdoms symbolizes the complete destruction of the opposition to Sauron’s rule.
6) The area around Hornburg and Helm’s Deep have been redrawn to correct geographical errors.

:D :D :D I'd love to see your research notes from your field trip to study the terrain :D :D :D
Seriously folks this one is a lot of fun, though having read the book is probably a must.
Hey Rhino!
I was going to e-mail you about starting another game. I'll play either side.

Thank you for the endorsement. Any designer will tell you that the true satisfaction comes from knowing the work is appreciated.
Most of the map is taken straight from the original SPI board game, the rest is imagination. Also, shouldn’t neglect to mention the good people who put together the Tolkien Atlas at:
