Just wondering if any of you designers out there have ever looked into the declassified plans for the Invasion of Japan. I got a copy of it a while ago and it is pretty detailed. It could make for a very bloody and interesting sce. Just thought I would throw that out there!

A scenario about the invasion of the Japanese home islands was made. It's called Olympic 45. I haven't played it yet though.

Olympic 45
I had a go at this and it's Ok but no great shakes. After all the Japs just have to dig in and inflict as many casualties as they can on the US forces so it does not make for a very exciting game. I have the original board game by SPI from the '70s which for some reason I liked a lot better, forget why now.

If I recall, was this not a "solitare" game. The Japanese were not player controlled (though I can think of no reason why they could not be if one wanted a two player game).:)

Well as most people who played those old boardgames know most games turned out to be solitaire by default!
It had one interesting feature I have not seen in other games and that was a casualty chart. Each time the US forces suffered combat losses it gave a casualty loss as well and the counter for this was advanced along the said chart. IIRC when the US losses reached 80,000 the game was deemed won by the Japs. Unless of course the Americans had secured enough VP's in the meantime.
I played this once as the Japs against another player ( who was an American!) He won the game by landing in the north of the map thus cutting me off from supplies and reinforcments.
